We Need You to Support the Work of Serving the Homeless
We are so thankful to the many individuals, churches and organizations who have made donations to support Crossroads Shelter this year. Without the support of folks like you, we cannot continue to keep the shelter open or to provide the important support needed to help homeless families and individuals overcome their many obstacles in order to gain and maintain permanent housing and self-sufficiency.
In 2008, as in 2007, we continued to have increases in the number of people staying at the shelter. As of late-December we are projecting to provide more than 7,000 nights of shelter in 2008 (up from 5,629 in 2007). However, donations have decreased and our funds are seriously low. Your timely financial support is crucial. Please take a few minutes to send us a generous donation.
What kinds of items can I donate to the shelter?
Our most urgent need is for financial gifts to cover operating costs. Although we receive a portion of our budget through grants, the bulk of our funding is through local individual gifts from folks like you. Gift cards to local stores are especially appreciated because they allow us to purchase the exact items we need when we need them.
We also need household and grocery items such as toilet paper, laundry detergent, coffee, sugar, eggs, milk, meat and other fresh foods. Click here for a complete list: Supplies Needed
We have very limited storage space and are unable to accept clothing donations at this time. We suggest that clothing donations be taken to the Family Resource Center or Goodwill Industries.
For more information about the kinds of items are currently needed, call the shelter at 276.228.9270. Donations of items are accepted daily between 7am & 10pm at 240 Calhoun Street in Wytheville.
