Road to Readiness
Participants in the Road to Readiness Program are Crossroads Shelter residents (individuals or families) who face obstacles to living independently, but who are motivated to set goals and participate in programs to address their personal obstacles. We work individually with clients to assess their level of readiness and to develop action plans to prepare them for their transition to permanent housing.
The Road to Readiness Program provides the unique opportunity for residents to receive intensive case management while residing at Crossroads Shelter plus additional support for up to 90 days beyond obtaining their permanent housing. The unique support beyond shelter stay is designed to assist participants in maintaining their successful transition to permanent housing and reduce the likelihood of returning to homelessness. Participants have the opportunity to receive up to nine months of services with this program: six months in emergency housing and three months for follow up.
Components of this program to aid in this process include: working with clients to identify obstacles, to set goals, and to take steps to address these goals; referrals to support groups, community meetings and a variety of educational opportunities; assistance in obtaining a safe, decent, and affordable place to live; and follow-up support, education and assistance. As clients develop skills and self-confidence, they may want and need less support and assistance and will begin to feel comfortable making responsible, self-enhancing decisions on their own.
Additional funding is needed to support the Road to Readiness program. If you or your organization are interested in supporting this program, please contact Patricia Helton at 276.625.0219.
