Welcome to Crossroads Shelter, Inc.

Please Keep Giving During Hard Times
In these difficult economic times, it becomes even more important that as a community we make sure we’re taking care of those who are less fortunate. Even when the needs are many, when we all give, together we can meet the needs.

Crossroads Shelter’s greatest ongoing need is for monetary donations to support the costs of general operations. The continuing costs of things like staffing the shelter 7 days a week, electric & utility bills, fire insurance, and more must first be met in order for the Shelter to remain open. Due to the economic downturn, not only are foundation grants diminished or non-existant, but also giving by area individuals, churches, and organizations have shrunk. This has created great hardship for Crossroads Shelter, resulting in our having to reduce the number of hours the shelter is open in order to reduce operational costs.
Please remember to regularly send your donation to meet this critical need.
Donations can be mailed to:
P.O. Box 117
Wytheville, VA 24382.
Donations of items such as food, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, paper products, household cleaning supplies, and toiletries, etc. can be dropped off at the shelter Monday – Friday between 4pm and 8pm or Saturday - Sunday between 8am and 8pm.
For individuals or groups wishing to donate items, we encourage you review this list of needed items or to call ahead to ask what items from that list we are especially in need of at the time. We also welcome gift cards to local grocery stores and retailers.
If your church or organization would be willing to hold a Bowl of Blessing Fundraiser or other type of event to help raise money for the shelter and increase community awareness, please call 276.228.9870.
Opportunities to help Crossroads Shelter include not only making much needed donations, but also volunteering. A few examples of volunteer opportunities for groups and individuals are: doing light office work, teaching Life Skills classes, doing maintenance and minor repair work, fundraising, preparing meals, and more!
If you are interested in giving your time to help us help the homeless, click here for information about volunteering or call 276.228.9270.
Please note that due to our very limited storage space, we cannot accept donations of clothing. We recommend that clothing donations instead be taken to the Department of Social Services' Clothing Closet, Goodwill, or Secondhand Treasures Thrift Store.
